Camping Through the Eyes of a Child

Ryan Perkins (Current age 10)

Today’s guest author is a very special one! I’m honored to introduce to you my oldest son, Ryan. He wrote this short story in February of 2016 after a family camping trip. It’s incredible to experience from his point of view. So, without further ado, I present to you the writings of Ryan Perkins, age 8.

Chapter 1. Fish

Last week I went camping at Roper Lake. My first day was awesome! I had never seen a cabin before! When we got there, we unpacked everything. I got my tackle box out. I wanted to catch a trout and a crappy and a catfish because my dad got me some special string just for those fish. I threw my line in the water, then I waited and waited and waited. Before I knew it, it was dark.

Chapter 2. Carp

My Uncle D was fishing on the other side of the truck and he caught a carp!

Chapter 3. Crazy!

My mom and sisters came over. They got to see the carp in real life. Then my Uncle D staked him into the ground so he could not get away.

Fun Fact: Carp are bad! They eat all the fish!

Chapter 4. Nighttime

It was time for bed. I went into the cabin. I fell asleep.

Chapter 5. The Outside

I had to go to the bathroom. I got my grandma. We went potty. Then Uncle D had to go to the bathroom. All of a sudden…

Chapter 6. Night Fun

…we saw a raccoon! Uncle D hit the code on the cabin door, came back in, and he was safe. He got a flashlight and scared the raccoon away but the raccoon had cheetos.

Hint: The raccoon ran at Uncle D

Chapter 7. Carp Part 2

When we were about to go inside, Uncle D saw another carp! He got the net. He was going to net him but we were too loud and scared the carp away. We went back to bed.

Chapter 8. Swimming

In the morning we ate breakfast. Then we fished some more. We went for a walk and we ended up at the island. We went into the water. It was cold! I found a quarter and a dime. We swam and I sat in the water. I almost DIED because the ground was slippery. We splashed in the water, then we went home.
